British Passport renewal

British Passport Renewal

The procedure of British passport renewal can be done online. A British National requires renewal of their passport in certain conditions. It is necessary for the British Nationals residing abroad, to get consultation with an agent. The British Government Official Website also describes the conditions in which a new passport must be applied.

Expiry

Every passport has a validity period. A date is mentioned on the passport to which it is acceptable for travelling purposes. After that date, it is mandatory for a person to apply for a new passport. For British Nationals residing outside of the UK, it is advisable to seek assistance from an agent. https://unabridgedcertificates.com/

In the case of a child passport, the rules are slightly different. The website can provide complete information about the process.

Missing Or Stolen Passport

If a British National found out that his/her passport is missing or stolen, they will also have to apply for a new passport. It should be mentioned in the application that the passport was missing or stolen. For further assistance and information the website can provide full assistance to complete the process.

How To Renew A British Passpost

The procedure of renewing a British passport can start online. An application form has to be filled with all the complete information and documentation. The Application is then printed and signed by the applicant. The application is then sent to Her Majesty’s passport Office in the UK. Once it gets the approval by Her Majesty’s Office, the new passport will be delivered back to the applicant.

Fees

The passport fees should be paid online through a bank card which is viable internationally.

Guidance and Safety

For British Nationals Abroad, the best way to renew their passport is by getting help from a professional agent. Their help will save them the trouble of getting late, or rejected in case of incomplete or inappropriate documentation. The guidance should be followed very carefully, so as to avoid any kind of delay.

How Long It Takes

It usually takes six weeks to process a renewal of a British passport, after the approval of Her Majesty’s office. However there could be a delay if the office is busy due to some reason.

There could also be a delay if the documents are not sufficient or inappropriate, in which case, a letter is sent to the applicant to respond back in the given time of six weeks, if the recipient fails to respond back on time. The application will be cancelled and the fees won’t be refunded.

It is therefore advised to seek a professional’s help in the immigration procedures.

Emergency Travelling

A British national, whose passport is still in the renewal process and has to travel for any urgent or inevitable reason, he/she must apply for an emergency travelling document. The travelling document can only be issued by the British High Commission. The Website can provide all the information and assistance on the procedure. They can help you in the most appropriate way.

What is an Unabridged Birth certificate

What is an Unabridged Birth certificate?

With the New Laws that came into effect on the 01.06.15, many people are wanting to know what exactly an Unabridged Birth certificate is.

An Unabridged Birth certificate is a birth certificate that reflects the full name, ID number, place and date of birth of the holder as well as the particulars of both parents of the holder. An Unabridged Birth Certificate is the document that is the key to showing one's lineage and is the document that is required by all embassies, consulates and other officials for proving one's lineage.  All children born in South Africa after 14 March 2013 were issued with a valid unabridged birth certificate automatically and free of charge.  Everyone born before this date were issued with an abridged copy of their birth certificate. Holders of abridged birth certificates and those from countries who do not automatically issue unabridged birth certificates, must ensure that they possess this document. To clarify further for those from abroad, an Unabridged Birth certificate is also known as a full birth certificate.  For example the UK registry office issue Full birth certificates that contain the particulars of the holder as well as that of both parents of the holder. This document is the equivalent of an Unabridged Birth certificate.

When did the UK High Commission stop issuing passports?

When did the UK High Commission stop issuing passports?

In Commonwealth and foreign countries, British passports used to be issued by the Foreign and Commonwealth Office in the Passport Section of a British consulate, embassy, or High Commission. Since 2009, some British embassies ceased issuing full passports (though quickly available emergency passports of limited validity were still issued for one-way travel to the UK or to another part of the Commonwealth), and as of 2010, British passport applications must be made directly to the Passport Office in the United Kingdom. In practice, overseas applications are sent by the applicant to a centralised processing point;

In South Africa the High Commission was assisting in the process by sending the applications from the High Commission through diplomatic channels to Her Majesty’s Passport Office in the UK. They however ceased to do this towards the end of 2013.

No official reason has been gazetted  but one can surmise that this was due to the below incident:

On Saturday 21 September 2013, unidentified gunmen attacked Westgate shopping mall, an upscale mall in Nairobi Kenya. The attack resulted in at least 67 deaths, and more than 175 people were reportedly wounded in the mass shooting.

The extremist Islamic group al-Shabaab claimed responsibility for the incident and a woman named Samantha Louise Lewthwaite  also known as Sherafiyah Lewthwaite or the White Widow, is a British woman who is one of the Western world's most wanted terrorism suspects was found to be in possession of a UK Passport issued in Pretoria. The High Commission no longer assist with renewing UK Passports

All applications to renew an existing British Passport have to be made online and hard copies of the application and supporting documents need to be posted or couriered to the UK.
